Abstract
Purpose: Considering the future of the elderly population indicator in Gyeongnam, government support service for the low income group aged > 65 is overlooked of falling risk. Therefore, this study aimed to provide basic study data for community improvement with the realities of quality of life (QOL) in vision of the low income group.

Methods: The national eye institution visual function questionnaire 25 (Korean version) was administered in 107 participants aged > 65 years with low income and measured by a portable auto-refractometer (spot vision screener, Welch Allyn, USA) for refraction. Data was analyzed using R 4.2.1 (R foundation, Vienna, Austria) for independent t-test and Pearson correlation.

Results: The QOL scores in distant vision for men and women were 80.54¡¾23.82 and 80.5¡¾24.01, respectively (p>0.05). The average addition was 2.3¡¾0.65. There was a significant negative correlation between the addition and distant and near activities, as the addition was higher (respectively, r=-0.31, p=0.03 and r=-0.41, p=0.00).
As the hyperopia degree in spherical equivalent increased, the QOL in vision decreased. It showed that there was a significant correlation in near visual tasks (r=?0.35, p=0.02).

Conclusions: We do not hastily conclude that higher QOL in vision is regarded as negligible in daily risk factor. The QOL in vision is truly subjective and does not cover the entire visual function. The necessity and importance of reading glasses should be highlighted so that it would be a basic study data for safety of local community improvement.
